This is the second of four blog posts in which I am sharing with you some of my learnings from the Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada’s conference. I hope you find it as interesting as I do!
The next session I attended was about the benefits of gaining self-awareness as an adult living with ADHD presented by Anne Bailey and Laura MacNiven. The presenters demonstrated a model of self-awareness and ADHD treatment that they call the “Finding YourSELF” model. This includes: Separating you from your symptoms, Evaluating how your symptoms have impacted your wellbeing, Learning how to make changes for the better, and getting a Fresh start towards a new phase of control. This model takes the individual through a seven-stage process.
Our presenters on this topic made sure to remind us that this is not an easy process. One cannot expect oneself to fly through all these stages. It takes time. And you don’t have to go it alone, this is definitely something a therapist can help you with!
Come back tomorrow to learn about “Self-Regulation and ADHD: From Chaos to Smoother Sailing”
