Did you know that many music therapists work in a school setting? In this case, the therapist works with teachers, parents, special educators, guidance counsellors, and any other members of the student’s Individualized Education Plan team to provide the student with the best opportunity for learning and personal growth. The music therapist provides a unique perspective on the student’s strengths and inner resources as well as their areas of need. Among other things, the music therapist can work to reinforce academic concepts, develop an understanding of appropriate behaviour, improve self-esteem, and increase communication skills.
